Hello.

We are The 180. For those who don’t know us: we are an annual publication that captures memories for the Hotelie community. We were founded three years ago by a team who hoped to bring back The Hotel School’s yearbook tradition in a new fashion. Since then, we have completed three volumes, each with a distinct theme, featuring school events, student organizations, and Hotelie involvements. 

While we are still committed to continuing our annual publication, this year we wanted to start something a little bit different, something that is in line with the new normal. We wanted to stay more connected and be present throughout the year. We wanted to recap and report in real-time rather than merely collect and reflect.

So, we decided to start this blog. Welcome to The 180 Blog.

To all new Hotelies: 

Welcome to The Hotel School. Welcome to a new chapter of your life. Your first year as a Hotelie may not be what you have ever imagined - but remember, everyone here at SHA is committed to making it unique and special. The Hotelie community is here and will always be here for you. 

To all our returning Hotelies: 

Welcome back for a new semester, and for those who have returned to Ithaca - we missed not having you here. Statler Lounge may be quieter this autumn without the chatters (and we still won’t be able to eat in the library for all that matters…) but The 180 is here and is committed to being even better.

To our faculty members and professors: 

Thank you for everything that you have done to prepare us for this new normal. Your patience and creativity with planning this seemingly impossible semester is much appreciated.

To our Hotelie alumni: 

This fall campus is probably much different than those in your memories, but we are excited to share some snippets that may be unfamiliar yet nostalgic.

To Professor Robson: 

Thank you for always having our back. While we will definitely miss you when you retire this winter, we are excited for one last journey with you this semester. 

To those who just happened to stop by:

Thank you for ‘coming’ and stay tuned for stories, happenings, and ventures written by students in The Hotel School of Cornell University.

Lastly, to everyone:

While our printed magazine is primarily centered around student life, we will be exploring a larger variety of topics with this new project. We will cover subjects ranging from Hotel School FAQs to industry secrets to recent hospitality trends. Just like the new normal we must all adapt to, these themes will be different but just as eye-opening. And our voices will be stronger than ever.

We hope that you and your loved ones are staying healthy and well. We are excited to share something new with you.
